Founded in 2020, Caffeine Shark started when three friends went looking for a place to share their thoughts on energy drinks and found that one didn't exist. So they set out to bridge the gap between brands and drinkers, and help every caffeine fan find their fix.
We review by look, taste, and kick, give every drink an overall verdict, and blend in your ratings to produce a single Shark Score. Think of it as Beer Advocate for energy drinks: three Sharks, plus you.

Reviewing since 2020. Scores are ours; no brand pays for one.
Every review rates four things on a 0–10 scale. Overall is its own judgment, not an average of the other three.
The can: design, color, how it stands out in the cooler.
Flavor, sweetness, carbonation, and aftertaste.
How hard it hits, how long it lasts, and whether it crashes.
Would we buy it again? This is the number that counts.
The Shark Score blends the Sharks' average Overall rating with the average of reader scores. Every reader rating adds 5% weight to the reader side, up to 40% once 8 readers have weighed in, so the crowd matters more as ratings pile up but can't drown out the Sharks.
reader weight = min(0.05 × reader ratings, 0.4)
Shark Score = 10 × ( Shark avg × (1 − reader weight) + reader avg × reader weight )
Example: the Sharks average 8.4 and three readers average 9.0. Reader weight = 15%, so 10 × (8.4 × 0.85 + 9.0 × 0.15) = 84.9, shown as 85. Ties are ranked by the unrounded score.
Anyone can score a drink they've had. Here's how reader ratings work and how we keep them honest.
One overall score, like the Sharks' Overall. Add a short comment if you want. No account, no email.
No approval queue. The drink page updates the moment you post; rankings and best-of lists catch up with the next site update.
Rate the same drink again and it updates your score instead of adding a second one.
Every reader gets a random Shark name, so there are no usernames to abuse. Comments are screened before they show: links, spam, slurs, and sexual or hateful content are blocked, and strong language is masked.
Anyone can report a comment. Once several people do, it's hidden automatically, and the Sharks can remove anything that slips through.
Each rating adds just 5% weight, rapid-fire ratings from one network are capped, and bots get turned away.
Each dot is one drink: caffeine per fluid ounce across, Shark Score up. Select a dot to open its review.
Correlation r = 0.16. Caffeine and score are weakly related. Drinks at 15+ mg/oz average 73; drinks under 10 mg/oz average 67. Taste still decides most scores.
