Introduction

When I try an energy drink to write these reviews it’s usually 50/50 whether I’m drinking it for fun or drinking it because I need the caffeine. This review fully falls into the latter category. I’ve only had a single cup of coffee today and it’s 5pm here on the east coast. Ideally this gives me a delicious boost to finish the rest of my work.

Appearance

I like the can. I usually criticize green and black cans for being “Monster copycats” but this has enough going on to spare it from my wrath.

“An energy drink for the mind and body” in tandem with the star background is getting frighteningly close to targeted marketing to astrology girls, so I’m just going to ignore that and press on. Overall I think it’s a solid design, somewhat minimalist but enough to draw you in.

Pours out clear with medium carbonation.

Taste

With strawberry kiwi I was expecting more strawberry than kiwi, and a really sweet taste, but maybe that’s because I recently had a Bang.

It’s actually slightly bitter; not sure if that’s the caffeine or intentional artificial flavoring. It’s also very inoffensive which I like, because that usually leads to high re-drinkability. Gonna give it a 7 here, because it’s good but nothing about the taste puts it over the top. I’ll definitely try it again, so maybe it’ll be an acquired taste that grows on me.

Kick

It took a bit to kick in but it definitely packed a punch. I was able to power through the rest of my work and have some leftover to hop on COD blueprints with the boys.

For the record, I think 200mg of caffeine is the perfect amount (at the moment, definitely liable to change) so I wish more drinks would meet in the middle, instead of 160 vs 250-300.

Conclusion

Above average drink overall. I don’t think anyone’s going to be upset with this drink, but I don’t think it’s anything to write home about. The strawberry kiwi flavor is muted and it’s in the sweet spot of caffeine for me.

Worth checking out and I’ll be waiting to see if Triton is able to follow up Strawberry Kiwi with any flavors/twists.

Introduction

Triton Strawberry Kiwi is by far the best tasting Triton. Most Tritons are bitter and do a poor job at masking the bitterness of the natural caffeine. This drink has a wonderful taste and is truly a delicious beverage. The kiwi strawberry flavor is smooth and sweet without the need for too much artificial sweetener. Triton stays true to its formula, but the flavor selection is impeccable.

Upside

The taste is incredible. It is naturally sweet without the need for sugar or too much artificial sweetener. Triton Strawberry Kiwi has 200mg caffeine per can (12.5mg/floz), which delivers a decent kick. The mouth feel is much better than that of other Tritons. While it has the same carbonation, the lack of a bitter aftertaste is what separates it from its counterparts. There is no real crash either since there is 0 sugar and not quite enough caffeine to trigger such a response. This is a wonderful beverage, and I highly recommend it to those who have not had it or written off Triton as a brand because most of the other flavors are subpar. The can is also really cool looking as the Triton logo over a neon green background looks better than most of the others.

Downside

The brand Triton is not as good as most other brands, so Triton Strawberry Kiwi may go unrecognized. It also will not amp you up to the level of most sports performance energy drinks such as Reign and Bang. If it had the same taste and mouthfeel with a slightly higher kick, this would have broken the 9/10 overall threshold.

Upshot

Triton Strawberry Kiwi is an overlooked energy drink because the Triton brand is generally subpar. This is an amazing energy drink with a natural kiwi strawberry flavor, and has a much better mouth feel than other Tritons due to the lack of a bitter aftertaste most others contain. There is no sugar and not very much artificial sweetener, so it tastes delicious while delivering 200mg of caffeine. There is no real crash afterwards, and I highly recommend this drink to anyone who has not tried it.
