Introduction

So after seeing Cameron go through the most ridiculous energy drinks flavors I’ve ever seen (Carnival Candy, Jalapeno Strawberry, Peach Fizz, etc.) I caved and picked up a flavor I’ve never seen – Reign Inferno Red Dragon, of course even more ridiculous of a name. I guess “thermogenic” is the buzzword of the week with Rockstar coming out with a thermogenic drink as well. I have zero expectations coming into this so let’s see how it goes.

Appearance

Honestly, I think the logo is stupid. And try-hard. Trying to pander to the crowd who thinks they’re “energy drink warriors” I guess. But I do like the gray background that’s somewhat stone-like. Small boost for that. Pours out clear with low to medium carbonation.

Taste

I’ve been dishing out some high reviews recently, so maybe I’m getting soft, but the taste here is amazing. The flavor is fruit punch, like a spiked hi-c (do they still sell those?) with a sweet melon aftertaste. Really the only downside for me here is the carbonation, which I think could be higher. However, the low carbonation does make it go down extremely smooth. Who’s not into smooth drinks? The sweetness is perfect for me, but I could see someone with a sweeter tooth preferring a bit stronger of an aftertaste.

Kick

The kick is top-tier at 300mg of caffeine and zero sugar. Plus did I mention it’s thermogenic?

Conclusion

I’d love to hear from the Frenzy on this one because I feel like I’m going soft, but the taste seriously hit the spot for me. If the carbonation was higher I would consider bumping this up to a 9.5 or perfect 10. The Reign Jalapeno Strawberry is still going to be a tough sell, but I’m excited to give the rest of the Reign arsenal a try.

Appearance

I have proclaimed my love for red and black in a prior review, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I really like the appearance of this can. In addition to the red and black color scheme, it has graphite colored asphalt background. It looks like the pavement is being split by the drink, which is silly, yet cool.

Taste

This Reign is very good. The Inferno Red Dragon name is likely the work of the marketing team, it really should be called fruit punch on steroids. It tastes eerily similar to fruit punch, albeit less sweet. That’s honestly what makes it taste so good, it has all the best qualities of fruit punch without being overly sweet. It blends Reign’s formula with fruit punch flavoring and creates a winner. I also must add that the flavor is consistently good, from the initial sip to the aftertaste. The only element missing is slightly more carbonation to pair with the taste.

Kick

As with all Reigns that I have encountered, this drink packs a 300mg of caffeine punch. Definitely do not drink all of this at once if you are a rookie. The “Thermogenic Fuel” tagline is an attention grabber but I can’t speak to any effects. Regardless of any marketing angles, the Inferno Red Dragon will wake you up.

Overall

Killer packaging and a delicious flavor to back it up? Yep. Reign Inferno Red Dragon is a really good drink. I’m not really sure what I was expecting with a complicated flavor name and borderline excessive marketing, but the taste speaks for itself. Personally, 300mg of caffeine in a can is a lot for me. That will probably hold me back from drinking Inferno Red Dragon on a regular basis, but will a flavor that good I won’t be able to stay away too often.
