Three Birds Hard Seltzer variety pack

I’ll be 100% honest: I walked into my local Total Wine planning to buy the most interesting seltzer I could find. The Three Birds case didn’t jump out visually, but something about it was just asking to be reviewed. Maybe it was the $13 price tag.

The Three Birds website is like the drink: nice and simple. It invites you to “join the flock” with a gluten-free, 5% ABV seltzer in Raspberry, Mango, Lime, and Cucumber. According to the FAQ, Three Birds is sold at 200+ Total Wine stores across 24 states, and you can order online through Total Wine if there isn’t one near you.

I drank all four flavors in about an hour to get the full Three Birds experience. Here’s how they scored.

Flavor Jared
Raspberry 8.4
Lime 8.0
Mango 7.8
Cucumber 7.2

Mango: 7.8

Really good flavor. I expected a drop in quality at this price, but it tastes almost identical to Mango White Claw, which is a win at $13 a case. The only differences: the mango is slightly sweeter, which I like, and it’s maybe a bit less carbonated.

Lime: 8.0

Also impressive, with a super smooth mouthfeel. I expected a White Claw clone here too, but I actually dislike White Claw Lime, and this one is way better.

Cucumber: 7.2

Wow, it actually tastes like cucumber. I don’t know why I didn’t expect that. Refreshing, but I’m not a huge cucumber guy. If you love cucumber, this could be elite.

Raspberry: 8.4

A really nice balance between sweetness and carbonation. Full raspberry, and it tastes like it. The best of the pack.

Takeaway

If you’ve read my reviews before, you know I usually use more words than I need. I kept this one short for two reasons:

  1. The flavors are straightforward. They all taste as advertised, with very few surprises, and I think that predictability is a good thing.
  2. I gave Matt one of each to try, then took the rest of the case to a party. I’d take my first sip of each flavor, excuse myself from whatever conversation or shenanigan I was in, and write a note.

That could be portrayed negatively, but I like to think it’s a service to the people. I can confirm with 100% certainty that Three Birds Hard Seltzer is day-drink ready, and I fully endorse it as a budget-friendly, party-perfect case.
